SouthWest Sepcial - a Bluebonnet Eclipse - a talk by Mike Frost
On April 8th 2024, a total eclipse of the Sun crossed North America, from Mexico to Newfoundland. I was guest astronomer on the Astro-Trails tour to Texas, based in San Antonio and observing from the Heart of Texas Equestrian Acaemdy, Valley Mills, to the north-west of Waco. Although weather prospects were predicted to be good, the weather was not ideal - however, we did manage to see totality, for a four minute eclipse.
I then took a smaller group of astronomers on a tour of New Mexico and Arizona, visiting many astronomical sites - the Very Large Array (famed from the movie Contact), Barringer Meteor Crater, the Lowell Observatory, Flagstaff; Kitt Peak Observatory, southern Artizona. And the Grand Canyon.
The story of a SouthWest Special tour.
